Overview

Upper Dolpo Upper Mustang trek is an adventure and a complete immersion into the land of Bon and Buddhism. Both Upper Dolpo and Upper Mustang are blessed by the great magician ‘Guru Rinpoche’. Tibetan Buddhism and Bon is thriving for many years in both Buddhist Himalayan highland. Once it was the under the rule of the Ngari kingdom and now it is bordering with the Tibetan Autonomous Region of the Republic of China. This trek is delightfully combined treks of Upper Dolpo Trek and Upper Mustang Trek.

Upper Dolpo Upper Mustang Trek via Kekyap la Pass begins after the scenic flight to Juphal and follows river gorges and forested jungle Shey Phoksundo national park to reach at magical Phoksundo Lake. From here the route stretches the western shore of Phoksundo Lake to forest camp and then following Tuk Kyaksa Khola and crossing Kang La pass leads to Shey Gompa. From Shey Gompa, we climb up and cross Se La pass via Namgang Gompa to Saldang. From there the trail leads further north loop through Nisal Village/Yangjer Gompa, the last remote Musi village then passing Musi La to Shimen. Another route goes directly via Komas village to Shimen village.

Beyond Shimen the trail rolling in the Panzang river valley’s villages Phalwa and Tinje further connects Chharka village through Upper Panzang valley and Mo La pass. After Chharka village, the trek passes through a wilder route for a few days gaining significant altitude, we trek near Araniko Chuli and crossing Kekyap La and Changar La we descend to Upper Mustang's former kingdom Lomanthang. Exploring Lomanthang and Upper Mustang for a few days, then finally trek conclude to Jomsom.

Day 3: Fly to Juphal(2500m) and Trek to Dunai(2000m) 3 hours
Day 4: Dunai to Chhepka (2840m) 6-7 hours
Day 5: Chhepka to Sumduwa (3110m) 5-6 hours
Day 6: Sumduwa to Phoksundo Lake (3600m) 3-4 hours
Day 7: Rest and Acclimatization day
Day 8: Rigmo to Lake North Camp (3630) 3-4 hours
Day 9: North Camp to Kangla BC(4676m) 5-6 hours
Day 10: Kangla BC to Shey Gompa (4400m) 6-7 hours
Day 11: Rest & Exploration day
Day 12: Shey Gompa to Namgang Gumpa(4391m) 6-7 hours
Day 13: Namgang Gompa to Tora Sumna(3743m) 5-6 hours
Day 14: Tora Sumna to Musi village(4136m) 6-7 hours
Day 15: Musi Village to Chanpola Goth(4195m) 5 hours
Day 16: Chanpola Goth to Tinje Village(4132m) 7-8 hours
Day 17: Tinje Village to Rapka(4550m) 6-7 hours
Day 18: Rapka to Chharka village (4284m) crossing Mo La(5015m) 7-8 hours
Day 19: Chharka to Tulshikhola Bhedakharka (4450m) 3-4 hrs.
Day 20: Tulshikhola to Yak Kharka (5100m) 4-5 hrs.
Day 21: Yak Kharka to Chanagar HC (5450m) 4-5hrs.
Day 22: Chanagar HC to Tsopgo (5365m) 5-6 hrs.
Day 23: Tsopgo to Kekyap Phedi (5000m) 4-5 hrs.
Day 24: Kekyap Phedi to High Camp (5350m) 5-6 hrs.
Day 25: High Camp to Lo Manthang (3910m) 5-6 hrs.
Day 26: Lo Manthang to Exploration Day
From here there are two options
Option 1:
Day 27: Lo-Manthang to Dhakmar(3820m) 5-6 hrs.
Day 28: Dhakmar to Ghami (3520m) 2-3 hrs.
Day 29: Ghami to Jomsom by Jeep 3-4 hours
Day 30: Jomsom/Pokhara morning flight same day afternoon Kathmandu flight.
Day 31: Free day in Kathmandu
Day 32: Depart from Kathmandu

Option 2:
Day 27: Lomanthang to Yara Gaon (3650m) 5-6 hours
Day 28: Yaragaon - day excursion to Luri Gompa
Day 29: Yara Gaon to Tangge(3240m) 7-8 hours
Day 30: Tangge to Tetang (3040m) 9-10 hours
Day 31: Tetang to Muktinath (3760m) 5-6 hours
Day 32: Muktinath to Jomsom(2720m) via Luprak village 4-5 hours
Day 33: Jomsom/Pokhara morning flight same day afternoon Kathmandu flight.
Day 34: Free day in Kathmandu
Day 35: Depart from Kathmandu

Note: There is another option for the Upper Dolpo Upper Mustang trek, for that case the trail is the same to Chharka village, but after Chharka village that trail leads via Ghami La pass and to Ghami village and Lomanthang.
